Peruvian artisan Asunta Pelaez handcrafts the box from wood and paints by hand the world map scene on the reverse side of a pane of glass that is then secured to the box surface. The four sides of the box also have reverse-painted glass in blocks of color in the same brown, orange, and gold tones as the map. The lid can be removed to reveal a single compartment, painted black.
