Bali’s Wayan Randah is typical of the local artisans who lovingly carve the Buddha statues for NOVICA from a variety of exotic woods and stone. As the oldest of seven children in a small Balinese village, he learned his craft at the feet of his father. Since then he has, like so many others across the region developed his own style in interpreting the teachings of Buddha through his work. “It gives me great pleasure when one of my statues inspires somebody – for this is the foundation of my work.” A sentiment echoed by many of the local artisans who create theses beautiful works of Buddhism sculpture.
The NOVICA collection of Wood Buddhism sculptures has been created by local artisans throughout Southeast Asia. Skilled craftsmen from Buddhism’s birthplace in India, to Java, Bali and Thailand.
