Master carver Wayan Rendah patiently works upon a piece of suar wood to reveal the imposing presence of Lord Shiva – God of Destruction. Rendah hand-carves the deity with supreme delicacy holding a lotus flower and his traditional whip in two of his hands as he sits upon a lotus throne.
A powerful spiritual deity within the Hindu Triad, Shiva purifies the world through the destruction of all that is negative. According to Balinese Hinduism, Shiva is the god who prepares one for reincarnation and hopefully a better life, if one has lead an exemplary life. However if your karmas (actions) have been less than exemplary, Shiva will punish appropriately.
Due to the natural origin of the material and the handcrafted process involved, please expect the possibility of a slight difference in the wood's grain as well as dimensions.
