Details

Dancing to his own joyous music, a musician arches his back and blows with all his might. This superlative sculpture by Eric Danquah is airy and graceful. Using naturally dried sese wood, the artisan evokes a trumpeter from the northern region of Ghana, where the Hausas use horns during traditional festivals, such as the fire festival. He first hews the image, then carves the details and sands the surface to a lustrous shine. Applications of black and red polish finish an outstanding work of art.

Danquah studied electronics at the insistence of his mother, but eventually returned to his first love - wood carving. The talented young man is aided by his younger siblings as he creates beautiful images of West African culture.

"Very elegant piece"

I just received the "horn blower in shadow" piece. This piece is very rich and elegant piece. I have bought quiet a few pieces from novica and so far this product is in a different class of its own from the others in terms of quality.

"Start of a Collection"

This is a stunning piece, and the start of a collection of West African sculptures of musicians with their instruments. I look at this and remember the wonderful music I heard when visiting Africa.

"Beautiful table"

Love the table, but was delivered with a chip out of one of the elephants leg, so it?s currently hidden away against a wall until I can try and repair it as the light color wood shower starkly.
