Ernestina Oppong Asante celebrates friendship as she carves vivid images on the body of this djembe drum. She calls this model Biakoye, which is the Akan term for "unity." She exemplifies this with the carved images of people sharing a meal together, peacefully and amicably. "People eat together and share ideas and ideals," observes Asante. "So, we should live with each other together, and be one people."
The drum is carved of noble tweneboa wood and features a goatskin drumhead that is held in place with iron rods.
