Details

Birds alight on Saint Francis, the venerable monk, and a spotted dogs sits loyally at his knee. Symbol of Guatemala, a splendid green quetzal bird nestles on his arm. Jose Canil Ramos carves a charming portrait of the Founder of the Franciscan order. Francis of Assisi believed in the brotherhood of all of God's creation. It is said that he once preached to hundreds of birds about being thankful to God for their wonderful clothes, for their independence, and for God's care. The birds stood still as the saint walked among him, flying off only when he said they could leave.

The arm and bird are removable to protect them during shipping.

Because each work of art is individually carved and painted by hand, no two will ever be identical.
