A young skeleton dresses in the patriotic colors of the Mexican flag, her apparel that of the rural Mexican countryside. This is Catrina, who plays the coquette. She is an elegant lady, now a skeleton, but seemingly unaware of her own condition. Her name refers to death personified. Inspired by the caricatures of lithographer Jose Guadalupe Posada, Catrina is an important personage in Mexico's November 2 Day of the Dead celebrations. Marina Lozano works in papier mache to depict the extravagant image and meticulously paints it by hand.

I love this happy feline creature from another world! When I removed her from the packing, my cat ran over as though she recognized the creature as a long lost friend, and very gently rubbed her face over the Fanciful Cat to mark her as hers (I guess). The Fanciful Cat is so beautiful and other-worldly! One of my favorite purchases ever! The only problem I encountered is that the placement of her tail can make her difficult to find just the right place for her.

This alebrije is amazing. I bought it to add to may collection of Marina Lozanos beautiful work. I tell my 7 year old grand daughter that these will be hers someday...and that they are not toys but works of art.

I was on the fence about this one but ultimately decided that the idea of a seahorse with butterfly wings with too amusing to pass up. Now that I have it it is a lot prettier than I realized from the pictures
