Resembling a flower with six petals, peyote buds, or jicuri grace this monochrome skull figurine. The centerpiece of Huichol ritualism, jicuri is revered for its curative properties and its ability to enlighten the one who partakes of it. Higinio Hernandez Carrillo creates these geometric images, patiently applying each tiny seed bead and using a needle to place each one with precision. Six-sided stars watch over the sun at night while he is asleep.
Do not expose this piece to direct heat or light, as it could soften the wax adhesive and thus loosen the beads.
