Details

"This mask is used by females of the Bwa tribe during the harvesting of grains," says master wood carver Salihu Ibrahim. Target-like circles on the wings identify this ethereal creature as a butterfly. Gliding on soft wings, the mask represents a nature spirit among the Bwa tribe of Burkina Faso.

"We love it, but its picture is up-side-down!"

This is one of seven butterfly masks by Salihu Ibrahim weve purchased. We have them displayed as a set and love them! Each one is unique and interesting. They are carved from a lightweight wood so they are easy to mount. The color of this one is actually more gold than orange, but is otherwise exactly as shown. The painting is rustic which we like because it adds to the exotic and authentic tribal look of the piece. Thank you, Salihu!!

"Wonderful mask"

I was very excited to receive this mask. It makes a great impression against the white wall where I wanted to place it. I love the geometric design and quirkiness of the face which evokes laughter and good humor for me.

"Powerful and a little Cute"

Photos do this no justice. The antlers (or perhaps horns) stand in contrast to the simple, but elegant, face. its one of those designs that makes you think, why couldnt I have thought of this, while in your heart you know you couldnt have done so. This is my 16th mask.
