Details

"The story of Doña Beatriz, the first ever woman governor in Latin America inspired us to design this wall mirror," the Valenzuela Family explains. They work with conacaste wood, shaping the frame like a highly ornate arched window.

Known for her beauty and elegance, Doña Beatriz was the wife of the then governor, Don Pedro de Alvarado. When he died in 1521 she became the governor of Santiago de Guatemala – today Iximche. When the Volcan de Agua erupted, it created a powerful avalanche of mud, trees and stones which destroyed the city. Doña Beatriz was found dead in a chapel holding her five year old daughter and a crucifix.

"Exquisite Mirror"

The craftsmanship is so beautiful. It has that wonderful handcrafted look with every detail finely executed. The finish is perfect. I appreciate all the time and care that went into this piece of art. I can tell by the workmanship that the artist takes great pride in what he creates. This was my first time ordering from Novica and I am so pleased. I was a little concerned about getting a mirror shipped. It was packed so well and arrived in perfect condition.
