Details

A well-trimmed tree with blooming flowers radiates sylvan beauty at the center of this exquisite composition. M. Ayub hand-carves the box from select walnut wood, its refined details steeped in Indian artistic heritage. Aesthetic and practical, the piece is ideal for storing jewelry and trinkets. The box features a magic lock and can be opened by sliding the lower front panel of the box to the right side.

Following in his father's footsteps, Ayub strives to create decorative items of superior quality. He works with Kashmiri walnut wood, which takes between two to three years to dry out completely. He uses no artificial colorings, rubbing the piece with an agate stone prior to applying a wax polish. It features a removable shelf, maroon velvet lining, and brass hinges.

"Gorgeous!"

This walnut jewelry box, Hypnotic Tree is beautiful. I love the secret mechanism that releases the lock and I love how well crafted this jewelry box is. With a tray inside and the entire interior lined in red velvet this is a jewelry box worthy of my most treasured jewelry. As always with Novica, it was very well packed and quickly shipped. I love my new treasure.

"Valentines Gift for Husband"

This beautifully carved jewelry case I gave to my husband for Valentines Day, with a little something extra on the inside. It is lovely workmanship in wood carving and unique. The symbolic camel in the oasis symbolizes my husband, who is a refreshing delight and one of his nicknames!

Preserving Traditions

Preserving Traditions

Carving walnut wood is a passion for M. Ayub. He loves every aspect of this traditional art that was taught to him as a boy. A single piece can take many years for him to create; the wood must be gathered and carefully preserved before the carving can even begin. Once carved, it must be hand-rubbed with an agate stone to produce a beautiful refined finish. M. Ayub finds that many younger people do not have the patience for this craft and he fears that it is a dying art. He is dedicated to encouraging and motivating others to continue this magnificent Indian traditional craft and he stands ready to teach those willing to learn.
