Delivery EstimateA playful hummingbird soars skyward in an alebrije sculpture designed to hang from the ceiling. Zeny and Reyna transform found pieces of copal wood into a delightful alebrije. These fanciful sculptures are a traditional folk art in Oaxaca, once based on twenty totems but today representing all kinds of animals. They take their name from a Caló gypsy word for "something difficult, tangled, confusing or fantastic."
Includes a thread for hanging.
Because each alebrije is individually created work of folk art, shapes will vary slightly. Small parts are separated for shipping to protect from breakage.

"A one of a kind gift for a cherished friend."
Unique piece of artwork that was perfect for a dear friend who collects hummingbirds and needed a special addition to them. I am amazed at how wonderfully made this is made and the true appearance of being a bird in flight.

"Bright with excellent detail"
The hummingbird is beautiful. The color on the alebrije is a very close match to the pictures on the website, and the detail on the figure is incredibly intricate. When I ordered, I was really worried about this getting broken in shipping, but it was shipped flat with lots of bubble wrap and was very well packed. The assembly itself is very, very simple. I love it. Its going to make a great gift.

"Thank you for this treasure"
Thank you Zeny and Reyna. When I bought this, it was the last one. I didn't write a review then....I did see that more were available. I had this for a while - saving to give my husband as a gift. The bird hangs from the ceiling and catches the light so beautifully. I have been an admirer of Zeny's work since he first began. I had a video of his work that I showed my art students. Zeny and Reyna are gifted artists. I have given many of Zeny's and Reyna's creations as gifts to friends and family.

This hummingbird sculpture is so well done- beautifully carved and painted. I love the interpretation of flight. It is unique and this little guy adds much joy and whimsy to my space!

"Beautiful Bird 2"
Both hummingbirds I purchased are wonderful. Some brief instructions would have been helpful (to select which wings went into which hole in what order), but I checked the photo and acted accordingly and it looks great.

"Wow! Such amazing detials!"
I knew as soon as I saw this treasure I had to buy it! -- Painted with the wisdom of turtles (just one symbolism for turtles). Now they also have available a blue bull with fish! So tempting! The painting details and carving of the bull are just incredible. Perfection! I am always in awe when I receive these pieces from Zeny and Reyna. So happy to see that more of their artworks are available here on Novica.
