Nii Okaija Annan carves an extraordinary mask instilled in mystical beauty. Its features are distinctly Beninese, and it is believed that the person who wears it possesses the snake spirit. This type of mask is usually worn by a priest, or snakeman, when performing a celebration for the Snake God to ask him to protect his people from evil. Annan hand-carves this mask of sese wood and adorns it with embossed brass plates.
