This stunning wall mask by Eva Asantewa Amakye is inspired by the legendary masks of the Baule people of Ghana and Ivory Coast. According to their customs, these horned masks were inhabited by spirits and were worn during festivals. During ritual performances, the spirits were believed to come out to possess the ones wearing the mask while in a trance. Carved by hand, these sese wood mask is finished with clay and painted details.
