Unique Recycled African Mask in Brown from Ghana, "Nokofio"

By Ghanaian artist Ed Franklin Gavua, this original and unique African mask named Nokofio, a word in the Ga language that means "something small." Gavua works with pieces of recycled carton to create this eco-friendly mask, which features a long face with a wide open mouth. Around the nose, eyes, and cheeks are patterns and painted dots that resemble traditional scarification practices. Dried cocoa leaves and paste give this mask its texture, finished in a brown hue.
