Carrying pots full of shea butter atop their heads, a group of women with children slung over their backs travel together in this painting by Ghanaian artist Andrews Afranie Boakye. He paints this scene in an expressionist style, saturating the hues of the women's clothing against an abstract landscape. Says the artist, "The winds of the Harmattan are close, yet the African woman is not perturbed, because the calabash hidden under her bed is full of shea butter, which is the best immunity against the war of Harmattan. Be productive, call on fellow women, put your hands to work, and with unity in purpose we can walk through the Savannah to extend our trade of shea to our neighbors in exchange for monetary rewards."
