Sese Wood and Aluminum Animal Themed Ghanaian African Mask, "Natural Comparison"
Hand-carved of Ghanaian sese wood, this elongated mask adorns the wall with African elegance. Designed by Daniel Quarcoo, the colorful mask is accented with embossed aluminum and copper to depict an elephant and a cat. For the artisan, the imagery on the mask reflects that "in this world there is always a servant and a master."
Up to 90 percent of Daniel's income comes from his NOVICA sales. His sales have been down recently and this worries him greatly since his whole family relies on him to provide for them, including his four children.
This artist uses traditional techniques handed down through the generations and/or creates culturally significant items, helping keep these traditions alive.
Daniel Quarcoo has received 3 microcredit loans with 0% interest from Kiva and Novica, the first for $300 and the most recent for $200.

"I built a small workshop where I could craft my pieces. Things were going smoothly for me until a road expansion project made me lose my workshop."
