Red and Yellow Catrina Skeleton Ceramic Sculpture, "Flirtatious Catrina"
Working in ceramic, artisan Rita Sandoval creates this marvelous catrina sculpture. The skeletal figurine is beautifully clad in a red and yellow gown and matching hat; the slit in her skirt flirtatiously reveals her leg.
The original "La Calavera Catrina" was a zinc etching created by the artist José Guadalupe Posada in Mexico around 1910. Posada created the character, a female skeleton with an elegant hat, as a satirical portrait of Mexican natives who aspired to European style and denied their own heritage. The catrina has since become an emblem of Mexico's Day of the Dead celebration and a popular folk art subject.

"BEAUTIFUL"

She very quickly became one of my favorite thing in the house. She s on a shelf next to my bed and every night I tell her goodnight. The detail is impeccable. Definitely 100%+++++ the money I spent. Especially considering she was created in Mexico makes her even more special. Beautiful. Beautiful. BEAUTIFUL.
