Women carry bowls and gourds on their heads as they go about their daily chores. Frank Coffie depicts the stylized figures with elongated shapes that convey their grace. In many parts of West Africa, it is common to carry water home from lakes and rivers and the task usually falls to women. "It's customary to pause for a conversation on the shore," the artist explains. "Appreciate every moment."
