Ana Maria Gonzalez finds inspiration in Mexico's lotería (bingo) for the design of this decorative box. Crafted by hand, the box is adorned with decoupage. The traditional lotería includes 54 different images and numbers, and it is believed to have been brought to Mexico in 1769, when it was reserved for the upper classes. Eventually it became widely played by everyone, and is now a trademark at traditional fairs as well as in homes and schools.
The Women's Empowerment badge is awarded to female artisans or artisan groups that are led by women.
Ana Maria Gonzalez has received 5 microcredit loans with 0% interest from Kiva and Novica, the first for $1600 and the most recent for $3400. Proceeds were used to purchase wood, paints, and solvents to increase production.
