Lovely Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, stands on lotus petals. In two hands she holds lotus blossoms, another holds a water jar, and one hand reaches outward in a gesture of generosity. Lakshmi is the wife of Lord Vishnu and is the goddess of prosperity, purity, chastity and generosity. The Hindu deity comes to life in a colorful Madhubani painting by Devendra Kumar Jha, who draws each meticulous detail freehand. Originating in northern Bihar, Madhubani painting was once used to decorate the floors and walls of homes.
As each painting is an individual creation, each is unique. Colors and motifs may vary slightly from that pictured.
