Handmade White Leather Hand Fan with Hindu Design from Bali, "Srikandi The Wonder Woman"

Balinese artisan Mujiyono designs this hand fan to symbolize the story of Srikandi, a powerful figure from the Hindu epic, the Mahabharata. The abstracted figure of Srikandi is engraved into each white leather leaf of the fan, and she is surrounded by petal accents and ornate lines and curves to give the fan a richly detailed appearance. Each fan is handmade, from the beginning of the process of sketching the design on strips of cowhide to the finished, carved, and painted leather being attached to the buffalo horn handles.
