"Exquisite Detail"
Im delighted with this gorgeous soapstone box. I have purchased several other items from Gulam in the past, and I love his work, but this box is so far my favorite. In fact, I love it so much that Ive ordered a second one.

- While it's made for jewelry ot other small items, I think it is best as an eye-catching display item

"Gift for my bridesmaid"
I love love love the work of this artist. These handcrafted jali soapstone treasures were gifts for my bridesmaids and Maid of Honour at our wedding. I wanted to thank my ladies with something that took human work and consideration and that shared some natural beauty of our world. I was so glad to be able to give back to the artist too. They are gorgeous, beautifully conceived and crafted. Forever grateful!

"Second elephant art purchased from Gulam"
Precious piece and worried about arriving safe and sound. Relieved packaging was so secure took me removal of several layers of wrapping to get to box! Superb crafting of many elephants (my favorite creature) and love round design and substantial weight and size. Only disappointment is not off-white or ecru color as shown online, but a much darker brown or grayish shade. Nevertheless, love his work. Wish Gulam could bring back dyed/colored soapstone that he used to craft years ago. I have one of his pieces of a soapstone multi-colored elephant small box which I truly treasure.

Close to his eightieth birthday, Gulam continues the art he learned from his elders. His father was an marble carver and jali artisan honored with the state award for excellence. Gulam has been honored with the same distinction. He still works alongside his son and other artisans to whom he has taught this craft, and treasures the role he plays in continuing this important Indian artistic tradition.
