A cendrawasih, or bird-of-paradise, in all its breathtaking glory adorns this strikingly beautiful 100% silk batik scarf handmade by artisan Dayu Menuhari. Crafted in peridot against a burnt orange background, the design depicts the bird, which is native to eastern Indonesia, next to a leafy tree. As batik is a wax-resist dyeing technique, the Balinese artisan must use a traditional tool called a canting to expertly dispense thin lines of melted wax onto the silk material. The slow process takes time but produces superb ornamentation.
