Expressing Africa's rich mask traditions, Ghanaian artisan Abdul Aziz Mohamadu hand-carves this striking mask of sese wood. Painted solid black with yellow and red accents, the mask features embossed aluminum plate over the forehead and cheeks that reflects traditional scarification practices. A clay rub gives this mask an antiqued finish. It is named Saida, meaning "happily lucky" in South Africa's Zulu language.
