In an effort to portray the "unique beauty of the African woman," Ghanaian artist Jonathan Amartey designs a fascinating sculpture that exudes African culture. It depicts an African woman, featuring an exaggerated neck that separates her head and lower body in dramatic fashion. She wears her hair in braids that are tied into a bun, and rests upon a base in the shape of a cogwheel. The artist diligently handcrafts this unique sculpture with a metal frame encased in fiberglass. It is part of a series.
