This extraordinary vase is a hand crafted Chimu replica by the talented Walter Jose Acosta. Working with ceramic, he shapes the long neck into a face. The main body is adorned with the painted image of a priest praying to the rain gods for a bountiful harvest. The ceramic art of the Chimu culture had one of three intentions, for daily domestic use, for ceremonies, or for burials, which usually were the most artistically elaborate. In general, Chimu ceramics are characterized by a metallic black hue.

"One of best in my collection"

Very impressive piece! Love the contrasting color relief on the basic dark earthen vase. Really stands out among my other pieces in the collection.

"Beautiful conversation piece"

I bought this as a gift for myself to always remember the birth of my daughter and the beauty of delivering with a midwife. Having this piece in my home creates an opportunity to share this history and my connection to the story it tells.

"Stunning replica"

This work is of the highest quality, a detailed reproduction of Nasca form and iconography unmatched not only in its aesthetic quality but also as a tool for the close-up study of typified Nasca figural representation.

"Phantastic work!"

My warmest Thanks to Walter Jose Acosta for this incredible and wonderful piece of art! Through my work as a film director, I came into contact with Nazca culture and was immediately enchanted and excited. These vessels are truly empathetic and authentically designed replica that resurrect this extinct culture. Many thanks to Walter for this time travel!

"Amazing Craftsmanship"

I just returned from my second trip to Peru, where I saw hundreds of original Moche artifacts in museums, including the one this is based on. I was looking for a piece like this to bring back, as I love Moche work, but didn t find anything I liked. I saw Mr. Acosta s work on Novica and was immediately enthralled. I ordered this piece plus the Nazca whale ceramic. They both are beautiful and so much like the originals! I will definitely buy more of his work in the future.
