Hand Carved Wood Jewelry Box, "Ivy Fantasy"
Rampant ivy flourishes with style transforming this jewelry box into sublime handcrafted artistry. Carving with elegant finesse, M. Ayub creates this extraordinary jewelry box from Kashmiri walnut wood. The box opens up to two compartments lined with soft velvet, and a smaller one is featured for rings. The box features a secret locking mechanism and can be opened by sliding the lower front panel of the box to the right side.
Carving walnut wood is a passion for M. Ayub. He loves every aspect of this traditional art that was taught to him as a boy. A single piece can take many years for him to create; the wood must be gathered and carefully preserved before the carving can even begin. Once carved, it must be hand-rubbed with an agate stone to produce a beautiful refined finish. M. Ayub finds that many younger people do not have the patience for this craft and he fears that it is a dying art. He is dedicated to encouraging and motivating others to continue this magnificent Indian traditional craft and he stands ready to teach those willing to learn.
M. Ayub proudly provides for the education of his son and daughter.

"Beautiful Box But Lock is a Pain"
Let me start by saying the artist did an amazing job carving this box. The detail is beautiful and I do love it. He is quite talented. Im giving it 3 stars because of its functionality. The locking mechanism is a pain. I broke the inside of the box trying to open it. The piece that locks it snapped right off. Apparently I didnt slide the secret panel enough and when I forced the lid up it snapped. I thought maybe it wouldnt open because it had too much lacquer. I had to force the panel so hard to get it to finish opening and to close it. Very bad idea. It is not an easy mechanism to move. Maybe mine is defective but I broke the inside trying to do it so now I cant even return it. Its too expensive to be this difficult. I recommend looking at one of the artists other boxes that dont lock like this. If it wasnt for the lock it would be a great decorative box.
