Ghana's Victor Dushie creates this stunning mask that he hand carves from native sese wood before painting in shades of dark brown, red, blue, and brick orange. The artisan's own design features an elongated face of beautifully intricate textured aluminum repoussé metalwork. An adinkra symbol called kintinkantan sits at the center of the forehead, representing pride. Adinkra symbols are believed to have their origin an ancient kingdom that once stood where Ivory Coast is today in West Africa.
