Details

Designer Abdul Aziz Mohamadu calls this mask Mashgash, meaning "beauty and intelligence" in the Igbo language of Nigeria. Hand-carved from sese wood, the mask depicts a wise woman, her features embellished with lavish applications of recycled seed beads. The two heads beneath her ears represent wise counsel, while the bird below her chin enables her mind to soar. Three monkeys atop her head symbolize the maxim, "See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil."
