Details

Working in native sese wood, Abdul Aziz Mohamadu creates a pair of birds as sculptures. One holds a golden egg while both turn to look behind them. An Ashanti icon, the birds depict a traditional adinkra symbol known as the sankofa. This is understood as "go back to your roots," the message conveyed through the form of a bird with its head tilted backward.

"Conversation piece"

These look great anywhere! They are a conversation piece as everyone wants to know where I acquired them and then I share the symbolism of the birds reaching back. They could go anywhere in my house because they look formal enough for a nice dining room.

"Another Winner!"

Very striking color combination. The detail that appears looks similar to netting. This mask blends well with the Stunning-Amahle wood-mask I previously purchased.

"Dramatic Beauty!"

This is the second mask by this artist that I have purchased. This one is more petite and fits well into the artistic scheme on my Livingroom wall.
