David Fernando Duke evokes clear sunshine, lush jungle and rich, fertile soil in this dramatic abstract. Yet a thick, dark stain seems to creep across the canvas, blocking the beautiful colors. "This painting represents South America, bisected to the north by the Equator," David Fernando Duke explains. "I added 'spring' to the title, because South American always manages to blossom despite the difficulties its people face. The dark spots are created with tar, the petroleum found in some parts of the continent." The number results from the painting's position in a series by the Salvadoran artist.
Titled "Primavera Ecuatorial 57" in Spanish.
