Colorful Handmade Catrina Statuette from Mexico, "Death is Not the End"
This gorgeous catrina is the original creation of Rita Sandoval in Mexico. She crafts the statuette by hand from ceramic, painting it with a brilliant pointillist motif in a rainbow of colors. The figure flaunts a flower-accented picture hat and clutches a slice of watermelon in one skeletal hand.
The original "La Calavera Catrina" was a zinc etching created by the artist José Guadalupe Posada in Mexico around 1910. Posada created the character, a female skeleton with an elegant hat, as a satirical portrait of Mexican natives who aspired to European style and denied their own heritage. The catrina has since become an emblem of Mexico's Day of the Dead celebration and a popular folk art subject.

"BEAUTIFUL"

She very quickly became one of my favorite thing in the house. She s on a shelf next to my bed and every night I tell her goodnight. The detail is impeccable. Definitely 100%+++++ the money I spent. Especially considering she was created in Mexico makes her even more special. Beautiful. Beautiful. BEAUTIFUL.
