While the clay soil in parts of Lombok, Indonesia, is unsuitable for agriculture, it is a perfect medium for the potters of the Lombok Pottery Center. Artisans craft this appealingly earthy pair of bowls from terracotta and then fire them in a traditional kiln fueled with dry leaves, wood and coconut husks. The warm brown bowls are then embellished with rims of woven pandan leaves.
