A young woman from Brazil's Terena people carries a tray of coconuts. Selling tropical fruit is a source of income in the Amazon rain forest and wetlands. Working in ceramic, Leslie Bassi Gaffuri depicts the girl with braided hair, traditional face paints and tribal dress. "I am from Mato Grosso do Sul, where these people live," the artisan says. "For me, it's essential to emphasize the importance of our native women."
