Two faces gaze straight ahead, yet their temples touch in a solemn gesture of affection. "The female wears a mask of white clay, and both wear matching headdresses," says artisan Salihu Ibrahim. "Such masks are worn by couples of the Baule tribe of Ivory Coast during their marriage ceremonies."
The mask is designed for wall display only and cannot stand on its own.
