Ghanaian artisan Salihu Ibrahim recreates a traditional Dogon-style sculpture of a pair of lovers. The man smokes a pipe, his arm wrapped protectively around his companion. Such sculptures usually represent spirits or ancestors, and are placed in shrines as a sign of respect. Ibrahim carves the piece by hand from native sese wood and gives it a burnished dark brown finish.
