Mary sings a lullaby to little Jesus as Joseph watches over them. Wearing a warm Andean chullo hat, a shepherd stands by. A llama, deer and panther join this beautiful nativity scene, set in the Andes. Erika Ulloa crafts the wooden box to house the retablo, or diorama, and paints it in vivid colors. The figures are carefully modeled from clay and painted by hand.

"Christmas Lullaby"
This is the fifth retablo by one of my favorite artists Erika Ulloa. Not only is the retablo Beautifully detailed, but the box that houses the diorama is SO BEAUTIFULLY decorated with vivid colorful flowers. Magnificent!!!!

"Christ, the Prince of Peace"
With her usual consummate artistry and imagination, Erika Ulloa offers a prayer for peace in her depiction of the birth of the Christ Child changing soldiers from agents of war into bringers of aid and comfort. For me at least, this takes just another nativity scene in my collection to an instrument of contemplation and of motivation for working for social change. It is a true work of art, that changes the viewer.
