Meaning "Brightness," the Amoo mask from Ghana's Gamashie people is worn for the Homowo festival. The name is Ga in origin and means "hooting at hunger." Held each year in August, it celebrates the corn harvest. Abdul Aziz Mohamadu honors tradition with this African rubberwood replica as he expertly carves it by hand and decorates it with festive colors and embossed aluminum ornamentation.
