Sinclair Yao Daley honors the traditions of the Yoruba people of Nigeria with this hand-carved sculpture of a woman holding a pot with a fowl-shaped lid. It replicates those used to keep the bath medication for baby identical twins. Known as ibeji, identical twins are believed to bring good luck for they are believed to be powerful spirits. This finely detailed sculpture is masterfully carved by hand of sese wood.

After visiting Sierra Leone and dancing with the Bundu women group, I fell in love. This is a great and authentic carving, one of very few offered from Sierra Leone.
