Illustrating the importance of learning from the past, Sankofa is an Adinkra symbol portrayed by a bird that reaches to grab an egg off of its back. Hand-carved from sese wood, the Sankofa bird is depicted at the top and bottom of this African mask from Ghana. Ransford Bediako creates this mask, featuring a colorful painted finish.
