Memories from his days in the National Service spent in northern Ghana serve as inspiration to David Mawunya Charway. "The people of this area are very hospitable!," confides the Ghanaian artist. "I especially recall the architectural style of the region and its dry withered trees during Harmattan season." Every year, from November to March, the "African trade winds" of Harmattan blow dry and dusty from the Sahara to the Gulf Guinea. At their strongest, they can blow all the way to North America.
