Ceramic mask, 'Aztec Duality'

By Anita
Angel Cerons precious art piece blesses my home.
As many times as my eyes scanned all the art pieces available on Novicas site, again and again I returned to Angel Cerons Aztec Duality. The meaning of the mask as well as its beauty spoke to me, captivated me. And when the two I ordered arrived at my home and I saw them in their three dimensional beauty, I appreciated their sacredness even more. They now hover above the entry to my home, blessing all who enter it.

Excellent Craftsmanship
A really wonderful piece of woodwork. Beautifully carved and one of my favorite things from Novica. Jose, I love your work and hope that one day soon the Yellow Maya Jaguar and Parrot Mask will be available again.

We will want for nothing."

This exemplifies the ancient Mesoamerican concept of duality," artisans from the Angel Cerón Artisan Association explain. Day and night, hot and cold, dark and light — this thought was present in almost all philosophical and religious ideas, extending as far south as the Andes.

Unique Leather Wild Cat Mask, "Spotted Jaguar"
$44.99With its shining, reflective eyes, the jaguar was believed by pre-Hispanic man to possess a connection to the spirit world. An endangered species, the spotted yellow cat still finds a home in Brazil's Amazon rainforest. Marcílio Barroco depicts the magnificent feline in a bold carnival mask. He molds it from leather and paints it by hand before attaching an elastic band. The piece is signed with the artist's characteristic symbol.
