Colonial Chairs

Peruvian artist Moises Alvarez is typical of today’s artisans who re-create and craft original Colonial Chair designs based on 17th Century pieces. At age15, he apprenticed under his uncle in Lima, Peru, learning the art of working wood and leather to form functional objects of beauty and grace. And, like many of his countrymen who create these stunning, yet practical chairs, upon completing his apprenticeship and becoming a successful designer and craftsman, he felt the need to pass his expertise on to others of his generation. He sums it up this way, "To me, my art is the way through which I can express my country's culture.” A sentiment echoed by many of his compatriots who hand craft the objects offered from around the world by NOVICA.The Colonial Chair Collection contains a variety of colonial pieces interpreted and painstakingly handcrafted by local artisans from woods and leathers native to the Peruvian Andes. These unique chairs from the NOVICA Colonial Chair Collection make a fine addition to any home.
